Spicy Garlic Prawns

A 15 minute lunch for busy, tired mums.

Motherhood has shown me that joy doesn’t always have to come from dinners out or weekends away. Sometimes it’s whipping something up so delicious in ten minutes. Making this recipe has me feeling like I’m sitting by the sea, in the sunshine, eating fresh spicy seafood. These spicy prawns with ciabatta feel special without requiring much effort. The main reason it is exactly my kind of recipe. Take these out in the garden to enjoy in the sun. Along with a refreshing lime-and-mint drink or even a margarita. I promise you will feel so satisfied!

The dish you will want to make again and again

This is essentially a take on the iconic gambas pil pil. This dish proves that delicious doesn’t mean complicated. I think that’s what makes it so appealing. It is so easy to prepare! You can make a restaurant-quality dish in under 15 minutes. Perfect for busy mums. Especially the ones who want to feel like they’re having a treat without having a pile of washing up to deal with afterwards. The best part? You can make it before your little one wakes up for a nap! Or if you could whip it up as an impressive starter or dish for the BBQ! The prawns cook in minutes, becoming tender and succulent, soaking up all of the smoky, spicy flavours. The sauce that forms is so delicious you HAVE to soak it up with some thick, crusty ciabatta.

I’m not joking. You will be salivating with the scent and sound. Sizzling garlic and hot chilli make it feel like you’re heading towards a gorgeous tapas bar in the sunshine. It might sound super simple with just a handful of ingredients. You probably have most of them already in your kitchen! But the outcome is nothing short of perfect. A solid 10/10 for me anyway.

If you’ve never made gambas pil pil/spicy garlic prawns at home before, now is the perfect time. With a few simple ingredients and minimal effort, you’ll discover why this beloved classic has stood the test of time. Everybody loves it!

Ingredients

  • 6tbsp olive oil (or until its around 1cm deep in your dish)

  • 4 garlic cloves, diced

  • 1 red chilli, sliced

  • 150g raw king prawns

  • 1tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2tsp of dried herbs

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°
  • Pour the oil into an ovenproof tapas dish and lay the prawns so they are all on one layer. Alternatively, you can use any small dishes, I used 2 mini pie dishes for mine!
  • Add the garlic and crushed chilli to the oil and heat in the oven for about 5 minutes so the oil is hot and sizzling and the garlic is golden but not too dark.
  • Carefully take the dishes out, add the prawns, smoked paprika, and herbs, then return them to the oven for about 8-10 minutes. Serve with a ciabatta or bread of your choice.
  • Serve Immediately with a side of crusty ciabatta and enjoy!

Seriously, try this spicy prawn ecipe when you fancy something a little bit special but still super easy and quick. Us mums deserve meals that consist of more than what our toddlers refuse!
