Our pregnancy journey so far
Yep. We have a gorgeous little bun in the oven that is growing by the week!
It feels very surreal even to be typing this (even though I announced it already on Instagram). I decided to do a more in-depth post here. As you can see, I’ve had a little bit of a rebrand here, and I want to incorporate not just food but lifestyle and pregnancy.
This part of the internet will always have a foodie feel. As the baby arrives and grows into a little person, we can feature baby-led weaning meals, family recipes, etc. So, the food element will never be lost.
Anyway, back to the big announcement! We are so grateful and happy to announce this pregnancy. We feel so blessed and so excited about all the elements of parenthood.
How we found out about the pregnancy
So, we started trying for a baby in January, and in May, nothing happened. We knew June was going to be a social and busy month. We had two trips booked, and we basically said that this month, we could just chill and return to the baby-making a month or two later. If nothing happens by September, then we would have some fertility tests done to check everything was ‘working’.
We had a trip at the end of June with Bill’s parents. I must admit I did feel a little off—not sick or anything, just…off. One of the worst things was feeling overwhelmingly hot. I couldn’t understand why everyone else was okay, and I felt like I could keel over at any point (apparently, your temperature goes up, so this could’ve been that!).
Anyway, we got home and had quite a chilled couple of days. Then, on the 1st of July (the day before my monthly was even due), I still felt a little ‘weird’—not ill, not sick, just something felt off, a little lightheadedness, etc.
Bill told me to do a test (we had loads spare anyway), So I did. I even told Bill, “I know I won’t be, and I’m not even due, but I’ll do one anyway.”
This is the bit that makes me laugh; every month prior to this, whenever I would do a test, we would hover over the test nervously together until the ‘not pregnant’ text would appear, but this time, for the first time, Bill went downstairs and almost forgot I did it, I did the test then forgot about it. I washed my hands and tidied a few bits up, and I went to grab the test to put it in the bin, and it said clear as day ‘pregnant’ I ran down the stairs before I was even at the bottom; I was shouting ‘Bill! I think I’m pregnant?!’ We were both staring at it, laughing, and asking each other what we were doing now. We were in utter disbelief and thought maybe the tests were off or something? So we went to the shops to get more and did a few more tests. They all came back with positive results, and we hugged and laughed. We were in total and utter shock!
Worst pregnancy symptom?
For me personally, it was the food aversions. I absolutely love my food, and going near anything that wasn’t crackers would make me feel so sick, and the smell of my kitchen? I couldn’t bear it. I’d never heard of these symptoms before during pregnancy, and I was expecting morning sickness and food cravings, but no, I detested all foods! I just wanted crackers or salt and vinegar squares, and I couldn’t stomach much else, to be honest, and it made this page impossible to work on because it was so food-focused!
Luckily, I am pretty much eating everything I did before, so I’m glad that phase is over 😅
Gender reveal and how we are feeling
It took weeks for it to feel real—actually, it still doesn’t feel real now—but telling our families was the best thing. It’s the best news to share with everybody, and we are so grateful because it really is everything we ever wanted. Oh, and we’re having a baby boy!
A beautiful baby boy. I feel so lucky. I really thought it was going to be a girl, and I think Bill did, too. We found out just the two of us and then announced it to our families.
We aren’t the kind of people who enjoy all the attention being on us, so it was the perfect way. We found out and opened the envelope together, and it was one of my favourite moments we have shared together. Then, being able to tell our family was super special.
How we told our loved ones
We told our family about the pregnancy quite early on and we knew we wanted to do something cute for the reveal.
So we bought a Lion King gender reveal from Etsy, did a little gathering at home, made some picky bits to put out, and decorated it with a little ‘wild one on the way’ with a safari theme. We had the intro of the Lion King play ( the circle of life), and then when Rafiki presented Simba, it came up with the gender reveal! I created a Reel on Instagram which you can find here.
It was so cute, and there were lots of tears and cheers. It was honestly one of the best moments!
I’m so excited to document this journey and share it honestly with you during the pregnancy journey and beyond.
Let me know in the comments if there are any specifics you’d like to see. I would also love to know how you did a gender reveal if you’re pregnant or have had children. 🍼
Remember to follow me on Instagram for daily updates! I’ve created a section on here specifically for pregnancy content which you can find here.
